Guy offered Nina a smile. "Like hell, dear, but it’s nothing I haven't
survived before," he assured. "Thank you for... whatever it was you did."
He waved with his hand vaguely, mimicking what she had done earlier. “It’s
awful bad form to throw up on someone else’s floor, I know, but the drinks
were plentiful and the quality varied.”
He regarded Frank. He liked Frank. He liked Frank better when he didn’t
think of Billy, of what he had done to him in Darrow, and what he confessed
he would do to him in New York. He wasn’t sure why he liked Frank, or why
he could separate him from Billy and spend the night with him. But when the
man had asked him to stay, Guy hadn’t hesitated. Something about the eyes,
perhaps. He had expressive and kind eyes.
He did see Frank wasn’t fine at all, but what could they do? Had Guy been
in his situation, he would probably have spent the days drunk and the
nights with whomever he could find, wherever he could find it, until it
somehow all went away.
